Most wallets are made of leather. Among all materials used in making wallets, leather definitely stands out. In fact, the very first wallets in history were made of leather. It came into being when paper currency became the trade currency of choice. This was in the 1600s. In fact, the first paper currency, which preceded leather mens wallets but not by much, was then made of corn paper in 1690 in the Massachusetts Bay colony. Before that, leather pouches were more more widely used than leather wallets as they had to store coins, the only currency then known. These early leather wallets were made from cow or horse skin and had a small pouch for calling cards.
Modern mens leather wallets are not as different as the leather wallets of before except for the card slots that became popular when credit cards were created in 1951. About the only notable change in wallets was probably in the '70s when Velcro was introduced. Now, you'll see wallets made from various materials in all shapes and sizes and for various purposes.
Leather wallets that can be concealed in other than the usual places-even on a string hung around the neck and under clothes—became fashionable in the wake of increases in thievery and especially identity theft.
For men, a single bifold is enough. For women, it should be suitable enough to go with their attire, the occasion, and the stuff they would be carrying with them. Here are the different traveling wallets for women:
* The thin wallet is very flat, somewhat rounded, and saves space. The front pocket wallet can hold the typical wallet content of ID cards, credit cards, cash and change and is commonly made of Napa leather. This is designed for women on the run. You can choose from black, cocoa brown, and really chic combinations of blue, green, and pink combined with black. You may even customize it by having your initials embossed on it.
* Tony Peroni's taxi wallets has three zipped compartments for bills, for credit cards, and a coin pocket. It has a front flap with a hidden snap to secure it well. These fashionable leather wallets are available in chocolate brown or black.
* Another kind of wallet, the Ultimo leather weekend wallet, is ideal for trips. You can walk around without anyone noticing you are carrying a wallet that can hold cash, cards, and other important things you might want to throw in. It is made of leather and comes in black, brown, and cognac.
* If you need a basic all-in-one wallet, then the credit card wallet is for you. It has a clip that holds your cash and compartments where you can throw other things in. You may select from warm colors of black, honey, and chocolate brown for your money clip wallet.
* Another weekend wallet, also created by Tony Perotti, is available only in brown and that's Rustico's Leather weekend wallet. The turned edge design is attractive and easy to carry. It has two center compartments, two credit card slots, and on the reverse side is an ID window.
